A distinguished student who is on the way to be a successful financial resource manager.

Mr. Weerawat (Jo) Wongcharoenyai, FRM, graduated from the Finance and Banking Department in 2012. He shared the following during our recent interview with him.

Having witnessed my father’s success in real estate investment, I decided to choose “Finance and Banking” as the major field of study at MSME to build my career in investment. Looking back from today, it was one of the most important choices I have made in my life.

I started investing in common stocks during my final year of college, applying what I had learned at MSME. The combination of theory learned through the courses and experience gained through my real-life investment helped me land a job as an investment analyst in the direct investment department of Bangkok Bank. Helping managed one of the largest equity portfolios in Thailand; I was exposed to several major business sectors across the globe as I conducted internal equity research and financial models for the bank’s board of directors.

Inspired by my supervisor at Bangkok Bank and Dr. Chainarin at MSME, who have been providing me with extremely helpful career advice; I enrolled and passed all three levels of the CFA program, which introduced to me the asset class called “Private Equity”. After researching on the career prospect and value adding of private equity, I gained a deep interest in this asset class. That was the point when I decided to study at Said Business School, University of Oxford, which is renowned for its focus on private equity.

Apart from my work experience and track records, my education from Finance and Banking Program at MSME played a key role in securing my place in the MBA program at University of Oxford. I learned not only through traditional lectures, but also through business case competitions and activities provided. Environment at the AU Finance Family (FIFA) was also critical to my educational achievement; we have always been sharing ideas and helping one another in every possible way.

Now (in 2016) I am working as a private equity associate at Lakeshore Capital, just as I had aimed for. Three months so far at Lakeshore Capital, I have learned and enjoyed so much that I could not ask for more. The greatest professional achievement, from my point of view, is being able to do a job that we are genuinely passionate about. In such sense, I have achieved mine, which couldn’t have been done without support from Finance and Banking Department, at Assumption University.
